Cabbage Patch Kids aren't the only retro toys that are making a comeback. Twenty years after they were first inspired by greeting cards or cartoons, here are a few more toys that are returning.
Care Bears
Debuted: 1982, Kenner
Relaunched: 2003, Play Along
What's new: Bears that dance, sing, glow or interact with each other. Computer-animated adventures on video and DVD are due Oct. 5.
Strawberry Shortcake
Debuted: 1981, Kenner
Relaunched: 2003, Bandai America
What's new: A spunkier, more independent character clad in more modern clothing (jeans instead of a dress), and animated adventures on DVD.
My Little Pony
Debuted: 1983, Hasbro
Relaunched: 2003, Hasbro
What's new: Ponies with a different theme every year, symbols on only one side of their bodies, magnets on one hoof to allow them to interact with different play sets.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Debuted: 1988, Playmates
Relaunched: 2003, Playmates
What's new: Edgier, more serious attitudes (the Turtles have lost some of their "cheese factor," except on their pizza). Coming soon: Turtle action figures that perform their own martial arts moves.
