Deerfield sets school levy vote

DEERFIELD TWP. - Residents are a step closer to seeing a 5.9-mill school operating levy on the ballot in November after a 4-1 vote Tuesday evening by the Kings Board of Education.
The financially troubled district is facing $2 million in personnel and program cuts during the next two school years.
The board will make a final vote on putting the 5.9-mill levy on the fall ballot on Aug. 17. If approved, the levy would raise annual property taxes for the owner of a $100,000 home by $180.
