COLUMBUS - Four educators from Southwest Ohio have been appointed to the State Board of Education's new 17-member Educator Standards Board.
The board will develop standards for teachers and principals at all stages of their careers, formulate standards for educator professional development, and recommend policies to close achievement gaps among groups of students. The four are:
Mary Villarreal, language arts teacher, Fairfield Middle School.
Della Goodwin-Sebron, preschool teacher, Hartwell School, Cincinnati Public Schools.
Lawrence J. Johnson, dean of the University of Cincinnati College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services.
Jay Parks, retired school principal, Linwood Academy, a K-6 Cincinnati Public School in the East End.
A new law directed the state board to appoint eight teachers from public schools, one teacher from a chartered nonpublic school, four school administrators, one school board member and three representatives from higher education to the new board.
