If you're allergic
Not everyone is nuts about nuts: About 3 million Americans are allergic to tree nuts and peanuts, and nuts can trigger fatal allergic reactions in some people. Here are some other sources for the nutrients nuts provide:
Vitamin E: Vegetable oils, green leafy vegetables and fortified cereals.
Omega-3 fatty acids: Seafood and fish-oil supplements.
B vitamins: Leafy greens, peas and beans, milk, eggs, meat, poultry, fish, fortified cereals and some fruits and vegetables.
Magnesium: Green vegetables, seeds and some whole grains.
Selenium: Meat, fish and poultry, eggs, fortified grain products, dairy products.
Zinc: Oysters, red meat, poultry, beans, fortified grain and cereal products, dairy products.
