It is longer lasting, allows physicians to monitor both chambers of the heart simultaneously and provides data about twice as fast. Bethesda North was the first hospital in the nation to install the device since it won U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval, according to the manufacturer.

The device was received by Maralyn Anderson, 78, of Symmes Township in a 90-minute operation performed by Dr. Theodore Waller.
