Assault charge filed after children's fight
A 9-year-old boy accused of seriously injuring an 8-year-old during a playground fistfight in Avondale last month has been charged with assault, police said Thursday.
Police said the charge was simple assault, not the more serious charge of felonious assault. Details were not available.
Treshawn Jones, 8, was in critical condition June 20 after police said his head was slammed against concrete in a park across from his apartment building in the 3600 block of Reading Road.
Doctors said an underlying heart condition caused Treshawn to have a seizure during the fight and lose oxygen. Treshawn's injuries likely stemmed from that, doctors said.
Treshawn has been released from the hospital.
