Planners consider Westwood rezoning

Strip center with video store proposed

WESTWOOD - A zoning change request for commercial development at Werk Roadand Glenmore Avenue will go before the Cincinnati Planning Commission today. If approved, City Council would have final say.

"There are numerous opportunities for public input during this process," said Oren Henry, Cincinnati's acting director of community development and planning.

The request is part of a proposal by Family Movie Club Inc. of Springfield, Ill. It asks that two vacant parcels - 3319 Glenmore Ave., zoned for multifamily residential use, and a portion of 3302 Werk Road, zoned for limited office use - be zoned commercial. The plan, for a strip center to be anchored by a video rental store, also includes a parcel already zoned commercial and occupied by Humbert's Meats.

The Westwood Civic Association has conditionally approved the plan.

"We were opposed to it until they told us what they were going to do" on issues such as landscaping, lighting and parking, said Mike Brestel, association president.
