OAKLEY - A water-main break Friday night in the 3300 block of Madison Road tore a 20-foot-wide hole in the pavement.
The road was closed to traffic.
The 16-inch diameter pipe flooded the road when it broke around 7 p.m.
Jeff Pieper, assistant supervisor of distribution for the Cincinnati Water Works, said about 25 businesses were without water, but no homes were affected.
Pieper said he was unsure what caused the break, but the businesses affected would likely be without water through this morning.
Water Works crews were able to shut off the water about an hour after the pipe broke, and said they were working to clean up the road and reopen some traffic lanes.
Traffic was closed in both directions for a quarter mile from Ridge Road to Brotherton Road Friday night. That part of the road will be closed until noon today.
