Notes and quotes from the political campaigns

Student Body Left: Democrats are so determined to avoid a repeat of the 2000 Florida recount, they're prepared to get physical. DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe gave the Florida delegation a pep talk in Boston this week: "When you leave this convention, you get back down to Florida, I want you stop every person you see and you ask them, 'Are you registered to vote?' and tell them they need to vote for John Kerry. And if they don't stop, I want you to tackle them."

Whoops, there it is: Remember those electronic vote records from the 2002 election that Miami-Dade County officials said they'd lost in a computer crash last year? Never mind. They announced Friday that they'd found them on a compact disc in a county office. No word on who had created the CD or how it had been misplaced. The county insists no votes were harmed in the production of this particular fiasco.
