A Hamilton County Common Pleas judge Thursday ordered a figure skating coach to spend three years on probation and pay a $1,000 fine for endangering one of his skating students.
David Lowery, 67, of Evendale, was convicted in June of two charges of child endangering. In exchange, Hamilton County prosecutors agreed to drop charges of sexual battery and attempted gross sexual imposition. Judge David Davis said Lowery is not to have contact with children under the age of 18.
Lowery sexually touched a 16-year-old West Side boy, according to the indictment.
Robbery brings 21 years
Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Patrick Dinkelacker sentenced a 22-year-old Oakley man Thursday to 21 years in prison for an armed robbery that ended with the victim being stabbed.
In July, a jury convicted Robert A. Smith on charges of aggravated robbery and felonious assault in the March 18 attack on Darrin Murray in Price Hill.
Murray was coming home after work when Smith and two other people attacked him. Smith hit Murray three times with a firearm while the other suspects stabbed him and took his wallet, shirt, shoes and coat, prosecutors said.
Car hits tree, driver critical
WALNUT HILLS - A 25-year-old Walnut Hills man was injured Thursday afternoon when he lost control of his vehicle on Altoona Street and struck a tree.
Antwyon L. Fant of Chapel Street was taken to University Hospital following the 2:08 p.m. crash. He was in critical condition late Thursday, police said.
Fant was traveling west on Altoona S near Mathers Street when his vehicle went off the right side of the road, struck the curb, a picnic table and a tree. He was driving with a suspended driver's license, police said.
Speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, police said.
Neighbor charged in shooting
MIDDLETOWN - A 64-year-old Middletown man was charged with attempted murder Thursday after police said he fired a shotgun and wounded a neighbor.
Ollie James Haddix, of 3408 Jewell Ave., was charged with shooting 57-year-old Keith Hollingsworth, of 3404 Jewell Ave., police said. Hollingsworth was struck in the right arm.
The shooting occurred about 2:45 p.m. while Hollingsworth was in his rear yard, police said.
He was wounded as he attempted to flee inside his home.
