A guide to what's going on

Singles

Raise some fun: Cincinnati FunRaisers will host a business casual River Rendezvouz social and dance 6-10 p.m. Aug. 12 at Watertown Yacht Club in Dayton, Ky. with music, hors d'oeuvres and one drink; $8 for members, $10 non-members. Money raised will benefit research at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

Animated fun

Duh! Homer Simpson in a yarmulke? It could happen - especially at Loungin at Lakeside with the Simpsons, a cartoon event from 7-10 p.m. Aug. 22 at Sharon Woods' Lakeside Lodge. The event, sponsored by Jewish Family Service, is for Jewish young adults over 21. They'll screen Jewish-themed Simpsons episodes while enjoying beer, wine and vying for door prizes. There will also be a discussion, "A Jewish Couch Potato's Guide to The Simpsons," by Dr. Fred Krome of the Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives.

Ladies night

Sorry, guys: The Candlelight Singles organization is known for setting up events that allow single men and women to get to know each other, but this time, the fun is for women only. An End of Summer Splash river cruise will take place at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at Queen City Riverboats. Teen drivers: Would your teen driver know how to avoid a roll-over? Give teens the tools they need to be better drivers Aug. 10-12 at the New Driver Car Control Clinic at Forest Fair Mall. The clinic, sponsored by the Hamilton County Safe Communities coalition, is a hands-on, behind-the-wheel program that teaches new drivers and their parents what to do when something goes wrong behind the wheel. $50 per family. Family time

Aqua deal: The Newport Aquarium has a money-saving plan for families looking to spice up their evenings with fun that's both educational and entertaining. Until Sept. 23, up to two children age 12 and under get in free after 4:30 p.m. with a paying adult. The family can enjoy all-you-can-eat pizza at the Aquarium's Noble Roman Pizza for $2.99 per person.
