OAK HARBOR, Ohio - The Davis-Besse nuclear power plant has started producing electricity again following an unexpected shutdown last week, FirstEnergy Corp. said Monday.
Workers began powering up the plant Sunday night and it was connected to the grid Monday morning, said plant spokesman Richard Wilkins.
The plant was to be at full power by the end of the day.
A blown fuse caused the outage during a routine test Wednesday.
The plant along Lake Erie in northern Ohio was closed for two years after inspectors found corrosion on the reactor.
Leaking boric acid almost had eaten through a 6-inch-thick steel cap, forcing the plant to undergo $600 million in repairs and review its operations.
