Citizens can sign up to learn about police

LOVELAND - Police are taking applications through Friday for the next Citizens Police Academy.

The 11-week program, which exposes citizens to current law enforcement issues and police procedures, will be held Wednesday evenings beginning Sept. 8.

Participants will ride along with a police officer, tour the safety center and county jail, and use the firearms simulator.

Applicants must be over 21 and agree to a criminal background check. Applications are available at the police department, 126 S. Lebanon Road.

Civil Air Patrol to hold search, rescue exercise

BATAVIA - The Civil Air Patrol will hold a two-day, statewide search and rescue exercise at the Clermont County Airport this weekend.

The exercise, beginning at 5 p.m. on Aug. 13 and lasting for two days, will include practicing flying search routes, guiding ground rescue teams into a simulated crash site, and maintaining communications among air crews, ground teams and mission base.

The exercise will be monitored by a U.S. Air Force evaluation team.

Hip, knee replacement to be seminar topic

BATAVIA - Mercy Hospital Clermont is offering a free seminar on total joint replacement procedures from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Aug. 23 at the hospital in Batavia.

The seminar, hosted by Dr. Charles Miller, will provide information on hip and knee replacement surgery.

Proceeds from 5K run benefit cancer program

COLERAIN TWP. - A five-kilometer run/walk will be held Sept. 11 to benefit Catch the Cure for Children's Cancer at Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

The "Run for the Gold" is held annually in memory of Sarah Zepernick, a 16-year-old local girl who died of cancer in 1998.
