Boone official joins state GOP
Boone County Commissioner Cathy Flaig has been elected to the Kentucky State Republican Executive Committee.
The appointment was announced by Kentucky GOP Chairman John McCarthy.
Flaig, the first woman Republican to hold office in Boone County, joined the county fiscal court in 1998. She is a leading Northern Kentucky Republican active in raising money for President Bush's re-election campaign.
Flaig is a delegate to the Republican National Convention that begins Aug. 30 in New York City. She was also a delegate at the 2000 convention in Philadelphia.
Citizens training for emergencies
FORT MITCHELL - The fire department and the Kenton County Emergency Management/Homeland Security office will be hosting a Citizens Emergency Response Team training program, beginning in September.
Trainees will learn basic use of fire extinguishers, emergency first aid and other emergency and health care techniques.
The class will be 7-10 p.m. for eight weeks on Wednesdays at the fire department. The class is limited to 25 people who are residents of Fort Mitchell, Lakeside Park or Crestview Hills.

Health grant to help school
INDEPENDENCE - Vigorous physical activity will take place at Summit View Elementary School this year. The school received a grant from the Anthem Midwest Disease Management program to launch a "Take Ten" program. Besides moving more, students will get healthy snacks as part of a nutrition lesson.
