MASON - A Dry Ridge, Ky., man is scheduled to appear in Mason Municipal Court this morning on charges he struck a boy with his car Saturday night in the parking lot of Paramount's Kings Island.
Jerry Bryan II, 31, was held late Sunday at the Warren County Jail in Lebanon on two counts of aggravated vehicular assault and one count each of driving under the influence, child endangering and driving under suspension, according to Warren County Sheriff's Sgt. Mark Hoffman.
The boy was flown by helicopter about 8:50 p.m. Saturday to the Children's Medical Center of Dayton.
Mason police did not release the name or age of the boy Sunday, so hospital officials said they could not check on his condition or find out if he was even still there.
Public relations officials for Kings Island could not be reached Sunday night.
In a phone interview, Bryan's wife, Renea Bryan, 31, said she hopes the boy is OK, but her husband did not intentionally hit him and was not driving fast.
He was moving their 1997 Chevy Blazer closer to Hanna-Barbera Land so their six-year-old daughter could go on rides, she said.
She also said her husband was not drinking but was on two prescription medications, including a muscle relaxer. The prescription bottles, she added, were in the truck with him at the time of the accident.
Her husband was driving Saturday on a suspended license, she said, because she doesn't like to drive in busy areas like Kings Island's parking lot.
Cincinnati police charged him July 24 with driving under suspension and driving the wrong way on a one-way street, according to court records.
"I get nervous driving out of places like that," she said. "We were going to switch places and I was going to drive home."
