William A. Boettcher of Delhi Township has been elected national commander of Amvets at the organization's 60th national convention in Spokane, Wash. He begins his term Sept. 1.
Boettcher, a life member of Amvets Post 1988 in Monfort Heights, has held leadership positions at all levels of the organization. After serving two terms as commander of the Amvets Department of Ohio, the Marine Corps veteran of Vietnam served two terms as Amvets national finance officer.
He was later elected national second vice commander. He also has held the position as national first vice commander.
Boettcher, a member of the Marine Corps League and Vietnam Veterans of America, earned an associate degree in engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He then spent 20 years working for private companies before becoming a service officer with Hamilton County Veterans Service Commission, where he serves as executive director.
Volunteers needed on Sept. 12
Nearly 100 volunteers are needed to help with the sixth annual Downtown Tour of Living, a showcase of more than 30 examples of urban living in Over-the-Rhine and downtown. The tour takes place Sept. 12. Volunteers will help sell event tickets, greet patrons at registration locations and at 20 tour properties, and also serve as tour guides on shuttle buses. Volunteers are needed 10:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 1:45-5 p.m. The deadline to sign up is Sept. 1. Metro running shuttle buses
Metro will offer express service to the Black Family Reunion on Saturday and Sunday. Buses will operate about every 30 minutes from Hillcrest Shipping Plaza (Seymour side) to Bicentennial Commons at Sawyer Point from noon to 10 p.m. both days. Round-trip fare is $3, or $2 one-way.
