EPA invites opinions on wastewater plant

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 to hear comments about a proposed wastewater treatment plant along the Great Miami River.

The Northern Area Water Authority Water Treatment Plant - proposed at 525 S. First St. in Monroe Township - would discharge 885,000 gallons of treated wastewater a day. The wastewater is a byproduct associated with the production of drinking water.

OEPA will accept written comments on the proposal through Sept. 2. Anyone may submit written comments or request to be placed on a mailing list for information by writing to OEPA, Division of Surface Water, Permits Processing Unit, P.O. Box 1049, Columbus, OH 43216.

Library co-sponsors Beatles tribute show

The Cincinnati Gardens hosted the Beatles before an audience of 14,000 screaming fans on Aug. 27, 1964. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of this event, the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is holding a number of programs.

A local band, Eight Days a Week, will perform a Beatles tribute show from 2-4 p.m. Aug. 29 at Seasongood Pavilion near the Cincinnati Art Museum in Eden Park. This free concert is co-sponsored by the Miami University Intercollegiate Athletics.Information: 369-6945.

The concert is also the culminating event for the Beatles Magical Library Tour, which continues at the Main Library, 800 Vine St., downtown, through Aug. 29.

Symposium to focus on sickle-cell trends

SHARONVILLE - The Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Greater Cincinnati will hold its first health care symposium and luncheon Sept. 1 at the Sharonville Convention Center, 11355 Chester Road.

The symposium runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration for the entire day is $100. Tickets for the luncheon only are $25.

The event will provide information on the latest trends and treatment.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Michael R. DeBaun, an associate professor of pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. DeBaun is an attending physician in the Division of Hematology-Oncology and medical director of pediatric hospice at St. Louis Children's Hospital.

The U.S. Postal Service also will unveil its sickle cell stamp at 11:30 a.m.

The Sickle Cell Awareness Group is a division of the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati as part of its new Community Health Initiatives. Information: 513-281-4450.

Amberley Village parks committee to meet

AMBERLEY VILLAGE - The Public Buildings and Parks Committee is scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. Aug. 24 at Village Hall, 7149 Ridge Road.

Among the topics to be discussed: Dealing with methane from the North Site, demolition of the swim club, stockpiling fill dirt from Cooper Creek and an ordinance establishing a beautification committee.
