Using the Internet to research a term paper is a common use of technology in some classrooms. But other classrooms are becoming wired with the latest high-tech devices to enhance instruction and school efficiency. Some examples:
PDAs, or personal digital assistants, (above) allow teachers and students to share information by beaming homework or tests to each other through the PDA. It is also used to track grades and serve as a calendar.
Video-conferencing equipment (above) allows classes to connect and have two-way conversations in real-time to experts who can enhance lessons. Schools connect to museums for interactive art history lectures, where students can ask questions, or to hospitals to watch a surgery.
Wireless laptops offer students Internet access throughout school buildings.
Tablet PCs (above) have the power of a laptop with a swivel screen that can be laid flat. Students and teachers can take notes and make drawings on it with an electronic pen.
