After a worry-free summer of vacations and splashing in the pool, kids might find it hard to get psyched about starting school.
For some kids, new friends or their first school bus ride is enough to get pumped for the first day. For others, the changes from relaxed summer schedules can prove to be stressful.
"The change in bedtime is a big deal," said Chrys Woodworth, a Florence mother of two."They have to start getting to bed earlier."
Some kids struggle with being away from their families and in a new environment.
Some schools offer back-to-school events to help students adjust.
Hays Elementary School in West End has an ice cream social the day before school starts to let students learn their way around the building and meet teachers.
"Part of the reason they have anxiety is because they're not sure who their teacher is," said Kathryn Chambers, Hays Elementary principal. "And once they know where things are, they don't feel as uncomfortable coming to school."
