Kings school board votes approval of 4.9-mill levy, despite 1 objection
The Cincinnati Enquirer
DEERFIELD TWP. - Despite the pleas of fellow Kings Board of Education members Tuesday evening, Toby Darkins refused to budge from his objections to a 4.9-mill levy now headed to the November ballot.
By a vote of 4-1, with Darkins the objector, Kings board approved the 4.9-mill continuing levy for the fall ballot. If voters approve, it would cost the owner of a $100,000 home $150 more per year in property taxes.
Originally the board had considered a 5.9-mill levy but compromised to the lower millage in hopes that Darkins, who favored a 4-mill levy, would join in giving the board a unanimous vote. .
Kings is cutting $2 million in personnel and programs during the next two school years to head off a projected deficit.
