Golf course opens back 9 after crash
FLORENCE - The driving range, miniature golf area and back nine holes of the golf course at World of Sports will open for business today for the first time since a plane crashed into a clump of trees on the course at 12:50 a.m. Friday. The course's front nine holes will remain closed until further notice. The billiard hall and fitness center reopened Monday. The crash of Air Tahoma Flight 185 is still under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. The plane, a 34-year-old Convair 580, was carrying cargo for DHL, which operates a freight hub locally. The co-pilot, Michael Ray Gelwicks, 36 of Southaven, Miss., was pronounced dead at the scene. The pilot survived and was released from University Hospital on Sunday.
Fire district may buy trucks
BURLINGTON - The Burlington Fire Protection District Board will consider a proposal to buy two new firetrucks at today's meeting, said Chief Ernie Biddle. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the firehouse on 6050 Firehouse Drive. There will be a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. Chief Biddle said the district's truck committee has accepted bids for two new firetrucks described as "triple combination pumpers." The combination vehicles carry both firefighting equipment and the specialized tools a rescue truck would normally carry. For information, call the fire district at (859) 586-6161.
Crescent Springs considers EMS
The future of paramedic service in Crescent Springs will be the subject of a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the city building, 739 Buttermilk Pike. The city will hear public comments on whether to join the Advanced Life Support special district being proposed for cities in central Kenton County. Crescent Springs is among eight Kenton County cities that have expressed interest in joining a special taxing district to provide paramedic service on a permanent basis starting July 1, 2005. To avert an immediate stoppage of service, Kenton County cities and Kenton County Fiscal Court reached an agreement in June that will continue paramedic service for another year, ending June 30.
