MASON - City Council will get to vote on a zone change for 209 acres along Kings Mills Road for a shopping center.
During a special meeting Tuesday, the city's planning commission agreed to send the plan to council.
Mayor Peter Beck, also a member of the planning commission, said the request to change the zoning on the north and south sides of Kings Mills Road to a business planned unit development gives the city more leverage in what goes into the development.
"It gives us the opportunity to plan that development in a way that's in the best interest of our community," Beck said.
City Council will have a first reading Monday, followed by a public hearing on Sept. 27.
Glimcher Development Corp. of Columbus requested the change to develop two projects - City Park and Park Center.
City Park, a "lifestyle center" on the north side of Kings Mills Road, would have retail space, a movie theater, four office buildings and a hotel.
On the south side of the road, Park Center will include a strip retail center, a hotel, office space, and a big-box, standalone store.
No tenant names have been released.
"They're not in a position to really talk about who they have secured," Beck said of the developer.
