Bicyclist injured after striking van

A 49-year-old bicyclist struck a U.S. Postal Service vehicle Thursday morning at Eighth and Ann streets in Newport, postal authorities said. Police didn't release the man's name because his family hadn't been notified late Thursday. He was taken by ambulance to University Hospital for treatment of head injuries and remained in critical condition late Thursday, said Capt. Phil Liles of Newport Police. The letter carrier, whom Postmaster Debra Webb declined to identify, was not injured. The accident took place about 9:30 a.m.

Get in the know about the sport of geocaching

INDEPENDENCE - Join Kenton County Parks and Recreation and the Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky Geocachers Saturday in Banklick Woods Park for an introduction to the outdoor hobby.

Geocaching is much like searching for hidden treasure. Caches are hidden in various locations and cachers use global positioning systems and physical coordinates posted on the Web to pinpoint caches.

The indoor portion of the program starts at 9 a.m. in the Kenton County Public Works Administration building, 420 Independence Station Road. After the indoor portion of the program, participants should be dressed for a walk in the park.
