Coroner says inmate had arterial disease
HAMILTON -The Butler County coroner said a Lebanon Correctional Institution prisoner who died in a hospital suffered from coronary artery disease.
Dane M. Brown, 44, was pronounced dead at Middletown Regional Hospital around 7 a.m. Tuesday. County Coroner Dr. Richard P. Burkhardt said he had not ruled on Brown's cause of death because he was awaiting lab results that would show whether Brown had taken drugs that may have contributed to his death.
Absent any findings of drugs, Burkhardt said he would rule that Brown died of a heart attack.
Brown was taken to the hospital after his cellmate said it appeared Brown was not well, officials said.
Brown began serving a sentence of 10 years to life in 2002, state prison records show. He was convicted in Miami County on two counts each of rape and sexual battery.
