Olympics: What to watch
Picture an Olympic day when America's top women athletes all get a chance to star: Mia Hamm in a win-or-go-home soccer game. Two-time winner Gail Devers running the 100 meters. Laura Wilkinson defending her diving gold. Lisa Fernandez leading her unbeaten softball squad.
Grab your remote and click. That day has arrived.
As the Olympics head into their second weekend, the U.S. women step into the Athens spotlight today. Devers, the 37-year-old grande dame of the U.S. track team, pursues the third gold medal of her career, starting with a 100-meter first-round heat in Olympic Stadium.
NBC's 8 p.m.-midnight programming also will feature Wilkinson's first Athens dives, U.S. women's volleyball against Russia, women's gymnastics, and one well-known American male: swimmer Michael Phelps, who will vie for his Athens-high fifth gold medal and seventh overall, in the 100-meter fly.
