The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center celebrates its dedication Monday with a day of speeches, songs and the ceremonial lighting of the beacon of freedom.
Where: 50 E. Freedom Way, downtown Cincinnati
Festival: Noon -8 p.m., free, public festival highlighting dance, music, storytelling. The center building will be closed to the public.
Dedication concert: 6:30-8 p.m. on the grounds of the Freedom Center.
Public dedication: 8-10 p.m. with first lady Laura Bush, official ribbon-cutting and lighting of the eternal flame.
Getting there: Public parking available, shuttles provided between Freedom Center and Westin and Cincinnatian hotels.
Street closings: Until 6 a.mTuesday, Vine Street between Theodore M. Berry Way and Second Street is closed. From 5-10 p.m. Monday, the Suspension Bridge will be closed.

Black Family Reunion continues
Thousands of people are expected to join the weekend-long celebration of African-American families at the Midwest Black Family Reunion which continues today at Sawyer Point and other locations.
Events include:
Today
10 a.m. Parade from Cincinnati Museum Center to Linn and Court streets.
Noon-8:30 p.m. Entertainment, music, food and information booths at Sawyer Point.
Sunday: Noon-8:30 p.m. Festivities continue at Sawyer Point.

Education official to pay school visit
Kristine Cohn, the newly appointed U.S. Department of Education Region 5 Representative, will visit Lincoln Heights Elementary School Monday to review the school's progress as part of the National Staff Development Council's 12 Under 12 initiative. The school was one of 12 selected by the council from across the nation to participate in the 12 Under 12 project. The council is partnering with 12 schools that are working to reach the No Child Left Behind Act's academic proficiency goal well before the legislation's 2014 target date. Cohn will meet with Principal Tyrone Olverson, tour the school and visit the proposed site for the new elementary school.
TRAFFIC WATCH
Watch for lane closures on southbound Interstate 75 between Tylersville Road and Interstate 275 in Butler County through 3 p.m. Sunday. Southbound traffic may be reduced to one lane at times.
