Volpenhein strikes gold

ATHENS - Cincinnati's Bryan Volpenhein became the first local Olympian to win a gold medal.The U.S. Men's Eight rowing team took the gold Sunday, edging the Netherlands by slightly more than a second over the 2,000-meter course.
Volpenhein, a Kings High and Ohio State grad, was competing in his second Olympics.
The winning time was 5:42.48.
