Zvonareva's style not enough in final
Davenport's consistency too much

MASON - The playing style never changed for Vera Zvonareva, but against Lindsay Davenport in the final, the result did.
Zvonareva continued her aggressive shot-making attempts Sunday in the final of the Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open, but she couldn't overcome Davenport's consistency.
The second-seeded Zvonareva lost 6-3, 6-2 and had only two break-point opportunities against No. 4 Davenport.
"It's tough to play against the top players, especially when you don't have any break opportunities," Zvonareva said. "I had to play really good on my serve to hold it. Sometimes it didn't work, and that's why I lost my match."
Like her previous three matches in the tournament, Zvonareva went for every big shot she could, and when she didn't make it, her body language showed her disappointment.
She hit 20 winners against Davenport but also committed 19 unforced errors, allowing Davenport 10 break-point chances.
Multiple times in the first set, Zvonareva slammed her racket to the court, and after the match was over, she slammed it three times into the ground while seated in her chair.
Once, after losing a point, she spiked the ball onto the court, sending it flying into the air.
"It was tough," Zvonareva said, "because she was serving so well. I felt so much pressure on my serves."
Zvonareva, 19, came into this week having achieved the highest ranking of her career at No. 9. She advanced to the semifinals of the previous two tournaments and before Sunday had won 11 of 13 matches.
"It's always great to get to the finals," said Zvonareva, who played in her first final since she won Memphis in February.
She said she will take a week off before the U.S. Open begins Aug. 30.
