Indiana hosts Heels in the ACC Challenge

Indiana University's basketball team will open Nov. 23 against Indiana State, followed by a home game Dec. 1 against North Carolina in the annual Big Ten-ACC Challenge.
The Hoosiers were 14-15 last season, their first losing record in 34 years.
IU's schedule includes games at defending NCAA champion Connecticut Dec. 4, at Assembly Hall against Notre Dame Dec. 8 and against Kentucky Dec. 11 in Louisville.
CONNECTICUT: Basketball assistant Clyde Vaughan resigned, one week after being arrested in a prostitution sting by Hartford police.
MOUNT ST. JOSEPH: The volleyball team is picked seventh in the Division III Coaches Top 25 preseason poll. The Lions finished 32-6 last season and were ranked 12th in the nation.
Reigning national champ Washington University was selected first, followed by New York University, Juniata College, La Verne University, Ohio Northern, Emory and the Mount.
Jurisprudence
BRYANT CASE: Two days before the start of jury selection in Kobe Bryant's rape case, prosecutors charged that crucial DNA evidence the defense had hoped to use to prove the NBA star's innocence might have been contaminated.
The judge in the case granted prosecutors' request for a hearing today to question the reliability of the defense's DNA experts.
The witnesses are expected to argue that the DNA evidence shows the accuser was promiscuous.
Hockey
WORLD CUP: Vincent Lecavalier, Joe Sakic and Brad Richards scored in the second period to lead Canada to a 3-1 win over the United States in a World Cup exhibition game in Ottawa.
The Canadians avenged a 3-1 loss to the Americans on Monday in Columbus. Chris Drury scored in the third period for the U.S. team.
Team USA plays Russia at 7 p.m. Friday in Columbus in its final tournament tuneup.
Horse racing
TRAVERS STAKES: Haskell Invitational winner Lion Heart and Jim Dandy Stakes winner Purge head a field of seven 3-year-olds for Saturday's $1 million "Midsummer Derby" at Saratoga.
Birdstone, making his first start since spoiling Smarty Jones' Triple Crown bid in the Belmont Stakes, joins Blue Grass Stakes winner The Cliff's Edge and Sir Shackleton from the Nick Zito barn. Northern Dancer Stakes winner Suave and Eddington round out the field.
STEVENS RETURNING: Gary Stevens, who portrayed legendary rider George Woolf in the movie Seabiscuit, has left his job as stable jockey to French trainer Andre Fabre and will return to riding in the United States.
Harness racing
YONKERS TROT: Hambletonian winner Windsong's Legacy was made the 8-5 early favorite for Saturday's $391,200 race, which will be at Hawthorne in Illinois instead of Yonkers, N.Y. The second leg of trotting's Triple Crown was moved out of its home because of renovations to accommodate video gaming machines.
Four Starzzz Shark, who set a record for the fastest mile by an older pacer this year, has been retired.

CHAMPIONS TOUR: Peter Jacobsen will forgo defending at the PGA Tour's Buick Championship to play in the JELD-WEN Tradition today near his native Portland. He won the U.S. Senior Open this month, his first victory on the 50-and-over circuit and his first major title.
Tennis
PILOT PEN: Lisa Raymond overcame defeated Nadia Petrova 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals in New Haven, Conn.
