Summer is the perfect season to make a movie

Movie-makers love summer, partly because it stays sunny long enough to shoot plenty of scenes in a single day. This particular summer was just long enough for screenwriter/producer Tyrone Richardson and director Kenny Koller to get their independent comedy, Finders Keepers, shot and ready for the editing room.

The early part of the summer was spent on pre-production and casting, then cameras rolled on July 24. Their final shooting day was Tuesday.

The movie tells the tale of a young man who accidentally picks up a gangster's cash-stuffed bag when he goes to the bus station to collect his aunt.

Eventually, said Richardson, "Everybody's life is turned upside down."

It features local talent, including actor Duffy Hudson, cinematographer Jeff Dunn and sound technician Eldred Bishop (who collaborated with Richardson on the 1992 drama One Way Out).

The filmmakers upped the fun quotient by enlisting a pair of comedians familiar to cable TV viewers - "Miss Laura" Hayes, who appeared on the Queens of Comedy Tour, and Joeryl Jackson, who has appeared on BET and the syndicated Live in Hollywood talent contest.

Editing the film will take most of the fall. If all goes well, Finders Keepers could be on a TV or movie screen near you in 2005.
