Charitable 'Colonels' take team to court

LOUISVILLE - The Kentucky Colonels charitable group went to federal court Monday aiming to block a minor league basketball team from slapping the same name on merchandise such as shirts and caps.
The charitable group - formally the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels - wants an injunction against the Kentucky Colonels basketball team that is to make its debut this fall.
The order's lawsuit does not ask the team to change its name. Instead, it claims it has a trademark giving it exclusive rights to put "Kentucky Colonels" on various merchandise.
The order seeks unspecified actual damages along with the team's profits from the merchandise sales.
