Boy home after near-fatal meningitis

The Associated Press

CORBIN - Friends and family are celebrating the return home of 4-year-old boy who had both his feet amputated in a near-fatal bout with bacterial meningitis.

Christ's Fellowship Christian Church, where Sage Bollman and his family attend, celebrated Sunday with prayers, balloons and a Spider-Man cake.

"It's a miraculous day, a truly miraculous day," said Frank Epperson, pastor at the tiny church.

For Sage's family, it was a chance to thank friends and their church family for their support while the boy was sick in a New Jersey hospital.

"It was like someone was holding our hand the whole way," said his mother, Laura Coddington. "

Sage contracted a mutated strain of spinal meningitis in June while his family was visiting relatives in New Jersey. He was unconscious for nearly a month while undergoing treatment.

Sage will have physical and speech therapy, and will be fitted for prosthetic legs soon.
