Fire chief resigning after 17 months on job
FLORENCE - Fire Chief Jim McMillen is resigning Friday to return to his family in southwestern Tennessee.
McMillen was assistant fire chief in Bartlett, Tenn., before taking the job in Florence in March 2003. He said he decided to resign, in part, because his family wasn't able to move from Tennessee as planned.
"Maintaining two households was just getting too complicated," he said.
McMillen oversaw the update of equipment during the 17 months he was at Florence. A new fire truck and two new ambulances are to be delivered before year-end.
