Interpreting Dreams For Self Discovery by Laurel Jan Clark (SOM Publishing; $12). Clark co-edited this collection of essays with Paul Blosser about why we dream and what those dreams mean. Beyond the River: The Untold Story of the Heroes of the Underground Railroad by Ann Hagedorn (Simon & Schuster; $14). Hagedorn's book for young readers, released last year in hardcover and earlier this year in paperback, is set in our own back yard. It centers around the activities of abolitionist John Rankin in Ripley and tells the story of all the people who helped him smuggle escaped slaves to freedom. Under A Wild Sky: John James Audubon andThe Making of the Birds of America by William Souder (North Point Press; $25). The wildlife artist was a complex man whose renowned work The Birds Of America consumed his life. Souder tells the story. Author discussion and signing 7 p.m. Thursday, Reakirt Auditorium, Cincinnati Museum Center, 1301 Western Ave.; 287-7000. Free; parking is $3. While there, ponder this: Audubon is listed as the first paid employee of our Museum of Natural History, housed in the center. Event is co-sponsored by the Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County.

Ultimate Punishment: A Lawyer's Reflections on Dealing with the Death Penalty by Scott Turow (Picador; $18). Publishers Weekly says the criminal lawyer turned best-selling author of fictional thrillers brings "useful insights into this fiercely debated subject."
