N.Ky chamber gives award to Callahan

Honor recognizes service

By Cliff Peale
Enquirer staff writer

State Rep. Jim Callahan of Wilder will receive the Walter R. Dunlevy/Frontiersman Award, the highest honor presented by the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, at the chamber's annual dinner Sept. 16.

The award honors those who have a long history of public service to Northern Kentucky.

Callahan, a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives since 1986, has been instrumental in securing funding for regional projects including the Northern Kentucky Convention Center and the Northern Kentucky University Science Building.

Jeff Eger, general manager of Sanitation District No. 1, will receive the Walter L. Pieschel Award honoring the top volunteers from the last year. Eger chaired events including the chamber's Washington, D.C., fly-in and "Charity Night at the Tables" sponsored by the Northern Kentucky Leadership Foundation.

And Shaun Alexander, a Florence native and running back with the National Football League's Seattle Seahawks, will receive the chamber's ImageMaker Award. Alexander graduated from Boone County High School in 1995 and later from the University of Alabama. In 2000, he established a foundation to help family causes.

The cost for the dinner is $60 per person. For more information, call the chamber at 859-578-8801 or online (www.nkychamber.com) .
