Web site offers lawyer information

The Enquirer

Those looking for any Ohio registered lawyer and whether that lawyer has been sanctioned for misdeeds have a new online tool at their disposal.

The Ohio Supreme Court this week unveiled an attorney registration page, where users can search for any lawyer by name, geographic location or registration number. The page will list the lawyer's address, phone number, date of birth and whether he or she has been sanctioned for disciplinary violations.

Ohio Chief Justice Thomas Moyer called the site an "effective way to make the judiciary system more open and accessible to the public." Moyer cautioned that the site does have limitations. For example, it will not include information about pending disciplinary actions or malpractice lawsuits filed by clients against their attorneys. The site can be accessed at www.sconet.state.oh.us.

Local residents also can search for an attorney through the Cincinnati Bar Association's attorney referral service by calling 513-381-8359.

Band to promote stem-cell research

A rock band from Australia plans to promote awareness of stem-cell research, during a Labor Day concert at the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal. The lead act, an "Aussie rock" band called Brother, was co-founded by a man with diabetes who supports expanding stem-cell research. Other acts in the Labor Day concert include the Cincinnati Caledonian Pipe & Drum Band, the Mad Anthony Wayne Band and Knocknagnel, a local Celtic rock band. Performances begin at 4 p.m. Monday and continue into the evening. Tickets, to be sold at the door, are $12, $8 for children under 10.
