Another six Thriftway stores will close this month as part of Winn-Dixie Stores Inc.'s closing or selling all 21 of its stores in Greater Cincinnati.
Stores in North College Hill and Westwood will close Sept. 15, while locations in Hyde Park, Fairfield, Forest Park and Fort Wright will close Sept. 22. All of those locations are holding clearance sales, and no sales to other chains have been announced to this point, a Winn-Dixie spokeswoman said.
Winn-Dixie already has announced the sale of six stores to Kroger Co. and another one, in Florence, to Remke Markets.
Venerable Cincinnati name officially retired
The Andrew Jergens Co. has officially changed its name to Kao Brands Co., the lotion and beauty care company said Tuesday. The change was announced earlier this year.
A Canadian subsidiary will become Kao Brands Canada Inc.
Camp Washington-based Jergens was acquired by Japan-based Kao Corp. in 1988. Its brands include Curel hand and body lotions and Ban antiperspirants.
US Airways pilots reject cutback plan
US Airways Group Inc.'s pilot leaders rejected proposed pay and benefit cuts, possibly derailing the carrier's plan to wrest $800 million in labor concessions in time to avoid a second bankruptcy filing.
The Air Line Pilots Association, which represents 3,000 employees, decided Monday night not to send a company proposal to members for a vote.
US Airways, the seventh-largest U.S. airline, faces a Sept. 15 deadline to make a $110 million pension payment and may be in violation of terms of a $1 billion loan at the end of the month.
Tax credits allow Jim Beam to expand
Jim Beam Brands Inc. has been awarded a six-year tax credit to expand distilling operations in Carthage, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority announced Tuesday.
Jim Beam, based in Deerfield, Ill., will retain 125 jobs and add 25 within three years in the $3.2 million expansion to produce cordial liqueurs at its plant in the northern Cincinnati neighborhood.
The company received an income tax credit worth $104,817 over six years, plus a $360,000 equipment tax credit, a $50,000 business development grant and a $50,000 training grant.
TiVo not ready yet with movie downloads
TiVo Inc., maker of digital video- recorders that can pause and replay live television, won't offer a movie-download service for at least a year, spokeswoman Kathryn Kelly said.
Newsweek magazine reported Saturday that TiVo will form a partnership with DVD rental service Netflix Inc. that will let consumers order movies and download them to their TiVo recorders.
