Public safety notebook

The Enquirer

Cincinnati police on Tuesday identified the man whose body was found floating last week in the Ohio River near Sayler Park as Stephen Gutzwiler, 47, of Price Hill.

His body, in blue silk shorts and New Balance gym shoes, was found in the water about noon Thursday along Forbes Road with a chain and lock around the waist.

Homicide detectives said the cause of death remained under investigation.

Bond Hill man gets 3 years for shooting girl

A 22-year-old Bond Hill man who fired a shot that hit a 7-year-old girl instead of his intended victim pleaded guilty Tuesday to a charge of felonious assault.

Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Thomas Crush sentenced Donald Stevenson to spend three years in prison.

Eninja Mincy lost parts of two fingers and had a rib and her collarbone broken when a bullet hit her March 28 while she played on McMicken Street.

Teen to stand trial as adult in homicide

HAMILTON - A Hamilton man accused of acting as an accomplice in a homicide when he was 16 years old will be tried as an adult, a judge ruled Tuesday.

Butler County Juvenile Court Judge Ron Craft sent the case of Bradley Jackson to the county grand jury and set Jackson's bond at $5.1 million.

Now 19, Jackson is being held in the county jail on charges of complicity to murder and complicity to aggravated robbery in the March 2002 stabbing death of Paul W. Brown, 33, of Hamilton.

Jackson is accused of helping Richard W. Miller, 21, of Hamilton, who faces the death penalty if convicted of aggravated murder in Brown's slaying. Miller's trial is Jan. 12 in Butler County Common Pleas Court.

Brown was a Miami University graduate with a degree in public administration.

The case remained unsolved for more than two years.

Brown's family paid for billboards, helped post a $25,000 reward and kept publicizing the need for additional leads until Miller was indicted in May.
