The advisory panel looking into a smoking ban for all Cincinnati workplaces, including bars and restaurants, held its second meeting Wednesday. The panel's 30 members broke off into five sub-committees. Each will study a topic. The panel is to report to City Council, possibly in November. The next meeting is 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at the American Cancer Society's office on Reading Road.
Criminals can be voters, too
An informational meeting on voting rights for felons is at 3 p.m. today at the Findlay Street Neighborhood House, 901 Findlay St. Topics include: voter registration, voting absentee while incarcerated, voting at the board of elections and becoming registered to vote after serving time. Joseph Mallory from the Hamilton County Board of Elections will speak.

Two honored as humanitarians
John E. Pepper, former chairman of the board for Procter & Gamble, will receive the National Conference for Community and Justice's highest honor today. Pepper, co-chairman of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, will receive the 2004 Charles Evans Hughes Award for service and commitment to humanitarian concerns. Author/activist Maya Angelou will also receive the award during a 1 p.m. luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Princeton choir chosen to perform
The Princeton High School A Cappella Choir left Wednesday night to perform with the National Philharmonic Orchestra in Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., Saturday. The choir will premiere "Prelude to Glory," a salute to the armed services.
Princeton is one of five choirs from across the nation chosen to perform.
Cherry Grove pupil is 6 years old
Annie Gerhardt, a 6-year-old student at Ayer Elementary in Cherry Grove, was born in 1997. An article in Wednesday's Local News section contained incorrect information.
