Here are events planned this weekend to commemorate Sept. 11:
HAMILTON COUNTY
ANDERSON TWP.: Coney Island, 6201 Kellogg Ave., will host "Celebrate America's Heroes," at 6 p.m. Saturday. Admission for the concert and fireworks is free. The Air Force Band of Flight from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base will perform.
Admission to Sunlite Pool and classic rides is free Saturday for all military, police and fire department personnel with ID. Donations of new or used clothes and new socks will be taken to support a program started for Iraqi children by Sgt. Paul Brondhaver, an Anderson Township man who was injured in Iraq in July. AVONDALE: The Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Unit No. 1, will sponsor a yellow ribbon giveaway 10 a.m. to noon today at the VA Medical Center, 3200 Vine St. Information: 550-1321.
BRIDGETOWN: The Oak Hills Varsity Singers will perform a memorial concert at 7:30 a.m. today in the auditorium at Oak Hills High School, 3200 Ebenezer Road. Information: 922-2300.
CLIFTON: The third annual Memorial Vigil will begin at 7 p.m. today at the Clifton Mosque, Clifton and Resor avenues. The public is invited to share experiences and then move up the street to continue discussions at Clifton United Methodist Church, 3416 Clifton Ave., at 8 p.m.
An Interfaith Walk will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the mosque, and will travel up Clifton Avenue, pausing at religious institutions, the firehouse, and the park, on the way to the University of Cincinnati. A bus provided by UC will provide transportation back to the mosque.
DELHI TOWNSHIP: The College of Mount St. Joseph, 5701 Delhi Road, will hold a prayer service, "A Time to Heal," at noon today beginning in the Quad with a procession into Mater Dei Chapel. Open to the public.
On Saturday, a "Patriotic Musical Salute" will be at halftime of the football game that begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Sports Complex. The Mount Lion's Roar Marching Band and high school marching bands from Oak Hills, Taylor and Bishop Fenwick will perform. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $2 for students and seniors, and free to children in the eighth grade and younger. Directions to the campus are at www.msj.edu.
LOVELAND: The Loveland-Symmes Fire Department will gather police and firefighters from Greater Cincinnati in a memorial march that begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at Loveland Elementary School, 600 Loveland-Madeira Road, and ends at the Loveland Firefighters Memorial on West Loveland Avenue. During this year's event, a 3-foot piece of the World Trade Center will be unveiled in a monument at the firefighters memorial near Nisbet Park.
The Air Force Band of Flight will perform, as well as bagpipers from a fire department in Florida. Information: 583-3001.
MADEIRA: A communitywide, nondenominational service, "Honor Our Heroes," is 7 p.m. Saturday at Madeira-Silverwood Presbyterian Church, 8000 Miami Ave. Rep. Rob Portman will speak. Information: 791-4470 or www.MSPConline.org.
MOUNT AUBURN: A memorial procession of police, fire and rescue personnel begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday along Auburn Avenue. Volunteers at the William Howard Taft National Historic Site at 2038 Auburn Ave. will distribute flags.
NORWOOD: A Firefighter and Police Memorial 5K Run/Walk begins 8 a.m. Saturday at Rookwood Commons. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Pipe & Drum Corps will perform during the memorial service after the race.

WALNUT HILLS: Mayor Charlie Luken will speak during a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Liberty Garden at Eden Park, Eden Park Drive at St. James Place. Keep Cincinnati Beautiful will host the ceremony that includes a presentation of colors and a 21-gun salute by the Cincinnati Police Department's Honor Guard. The Walnut Hills High School Marching Band will play. "Socks for Paul" will accept donations of unopened packages of unisex children's socks for the program begun by Sgt. Paul Brondhaver when he was in Iraq. Information: Nicole at 352-4380.
WINTON PLACE : A community picnic memorializing the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks will be 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Winton Commons Park, N. Edgewood and Hand avenues. Residents and guests are invited to pig roast, corn and pot luck meal. Information: 702-7029.
BUTLER COUNTY
FAIRFIELD: A memorial ceremony will take place during halftime of the JV football game that begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Fairfield football stadium. Admission will be charged to the game. The halftime performance is free and open to the public.
HAMILTON: The Butler County Fire Chiefs Association and the Butler County Police Chiefs Association will hold a memorial service at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Fallen Firefighters Memorial on Monument Avenue.
Before the service, a procession will depart from the Butler County Correction Center, 705 Hanover St., at 8:30 a.m. and end at the memorial. Mass is at 5:15 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Second and Washington streets. Information: 777-8388 or 868-5909, ext. 110.
HAMILTON: An All-American family cookout is 3-7 p.m. Saturday at the Butler County Fairgrounds, 1715 Fairgrove Ave. A patriotic opening ceremony is at 3 p.m. The cookout includes food, games, music and family fun. Admission is $10 per family or $5 per person. Proceeds benefit the family support group for HSC 216th Combat Engineer Battalion in Iraq. Information: 737-7347.
CLERMONT COUNTY
WILLOWVILLE: State Rep. Tom Niehaus will speak during a ceremony at 1 p.m. Saturday at VFW Post 9630, 4283 Stoddard Lane. There will be a flag-folding ceremony and flag-disposal service. Information: Joe Glass, 708-9349.
WARREN COUNTY
MASON: Paramount's Kings Island will open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today for a free event that features local firefighters and safety exhibits and discussions. A multimedia presentation, "Madame Tussaud's New York: Tribute to the Heroes of 9/11" features a lifelike wax recreation of the three New York firefighters raising the American flag out of the World Trade Center rubble. The presentation will be shown several times during the day. Rides, games and attractions will not operate during the free event. Information: 754-5700.
NORTHERN KENTUCKY
COVINGTON: Holmes High School students are participating in "Freedom's Answer", a student-led movement to honor the slain, the wounded and the heroes of 9/11 by encouraging civic participation and voter turnout. The students will hold a pre-game ceremony at 6:46 p.m. today at Tom Ellis Stadium in Covington. The students are calling it "a living civics lesson" as they recognize the efforts of local emergency workers by presenting awards to honored guests from the Covington Fire and Police departments.
COVINGTON: Celebrate Patriots' Day with "Great American Heroes" at the Mary Ann Mongan Library in Covington, 2:30 p.m. Saturday. ERLANGER: Erlanger, Elsmere and the Point Pleasant Fire District will sponsor a memorial service at 8 p.m. Saturday. A candlelight vigil will be along Commonwealth Avenue across from Super Bowl, onto Baker Street to Lloyd High School.
FLORENCE: The city, in cooperation with the Boone County Jaycees, will be celebrating Patriot Day at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Boone County Veteran Memorial, 8100 Ewing Blvd. The Florence Police Department Honor Guard will conduct the presentation of colors.
FORT WRIGHT: Today, residents, city employees, fire/EMS staff and other volunteers will place a U.S. flag in the front yard of every home in Fort Wright. Beginning at 5 p.m., flags will be given to motorists at intersections. An anonymous donor paid for the flags. Information (859) 331-1700.
NEWPORT: The World Peace Bell, home to Northern Kentucky's Fallen Firefighter Monument, will host a ceremony at 8 a.m. Saturday with speakers, a bagpiper, 21-gun salute, the reading of the names of the 343 fallen firefighters and the striking of the bell in the ceremonial 5-5-5 ring. The Bell, at Fourth and York streets, will remain open to the public until 2:30 p.m.
