UNION TWP. - A fourth-grade teacher at Clermont Northeastern Elementary School was placed on paid administrative leave after her arrest on a charge of drug trafficking, a district official said Thursday.
Jaime D. Bailey, 27, was charged by Union Township Police who were investigating a disturbance report at her apartment building. They allegedly found Bailey and her husband, Shawn C. Bailey, 26, in possession of marijuana inside their home.
"There's nothing indicating she's done anything involving students or on school grounds," said Gary Scarth, curriculum director at Clermont Northeastern School District. "This appears to be completely unrelated to her position here. And we still assume she is innocent until proven guilty."
On Sept. 2, Union Township police were called to a domestic dispute at Daniel Court Apartments but were unable to find any dispute in progress.
When they knocked on nearby doors to investigate, police say they found the Baileys' door open and smelled a strong odor of marijuana.
After the Baileys consented to a search, police say they found 67 grams of marijuana packaged in baggies for individual sale. They also found pipes and scales.
"It's not a considerable amount, not a kilo or anything," said Union Township Police Detective Sgt. Scott Gaviglia. "But due to the paraphernalia found at the scene, we thought a trafficking charge was appropriate."
Scarth is sending home a letter to parents to explain the situation.
