Church takes new direction all week long

Faith Matters

By Karen Vance
Enquirer contributor

MASON - The members of Christ Community Church will make a fresh start next weekend, with a new name, a new location and a new ministry.

Led by Pastor Ed McGuigan, the church, formerly located in Sharonville, has moved to a leased space at 7300 Central Parke Blvd. in Mason's southern business district. And with a new emphasis on catering to the spiritual needs of the business community, that's just where the congregation wants to be.

Although the launch of the church, now called Quest: A Community Church and Coffee Cafe officially happens Sept. 19, there are plans to open a Coffee Cafe on weekdays and a conference room for use by the public and small businesses beginning in October.

"We want them to see our church as not just a place they can be a part of on the weekends, but during the week. ... They can enjoy a cup of coffee here or a good conversation," said Ernie DiMalanta, the associate pastor for community relations.

The church has plans to create a lunch series of talks addressing adult issues, such as stress and parenting.

"We're trying to give people what they want in a church, not just what's always been there," said Frank Kitts, 46, of Landen, a member of the church for more than 20 years.

But the business ministry isn't the only change. The 100-member church is also expanding its children's ministry under Associate Pastor David Zimmerman, offering special children's worship during the regular 9:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday services.

"Over the years, the church kept growing into their faith, and their heart for community just grew. They wanted to do something to serve," DiMalanta said.

For more information about the church, visit www.cincychurch.com or call 336-7511.

Church hosts Christian composer

The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 1950 Nagel Road, Anderson Township, will host Christian composer John Ylvisaker this weekend for "Hymn Jam."

There will be a music workshop from noon to 4 p.m. today and a concert at 7:15 p.m. Sunday.

For more information, call the church at 474-4938.

St. Xavier hosts talks

The St. Xavier School of Living will host a four-week series of talks on the theme of globalization beginning Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at St. Xavier Catholic Church, 607 Sycamore St.

Farid Esack, a professor at Xavier University and Islamic scholar from South Africa, will speak about globalization Wednesday.

Then on Sept. 29, representatives from organized labor, academia and business will speak on the impact of globalization on jobs in America. On Oct. 13, John Sniegocki, professor of theology at Xavier, will speak about the Catholic moral perspective on globalization.

The series concludes Oct. 27 with "Developing an Inter-Faith Global Ethic: An Urgent Priority" by Paul Knitter, also of the theology department at Xavier.
