Man faces murder charge in tarp case

Woman's body found in vacant lot

The Enquirer

BURLINGTON - A 33-year-old Covington man was arrested Monday night and charged with murder in the death of a woman whose body was discovered Sunday wrapped in a tarp in a vacant Boone County lot.

John W. Snow was charged with murder, the Boone County Sheriff's Office said. Snow is charged in the death of 29-year-old Covington resident Patricia Volpenhein, whose body was discovered about 5 p.m. Sunday at Amsterdam Road and River Road (Ky. 8).

Police said the suspect killed Volpenhein and took her body to the vacant lot, wrapped in a bright blue tarp that attracted the attention of Kenton County sanitation workers working nearby.

Police believe she was killed in the 24 hours before her body was discovered.

The victim's body showed signs of trauma, said Boone County sheriff's spokesman Tom Scheben.

Boone County Coroner Douglas Stith declined to release results of an autopsy performed Monday, but he ruled the death a homicide.
