Prosecutor quitting as UC trustee
By Sharon Coolidge
Enquirer staff writer
Hamilton County Prosecutor Mike Allen is resigning as trustee for the University of Cincinnati, Ohio Gov. Bob Taft's office said Tuesday.
Phillip Cox, chairman of the university's board of trustees, called Taft on Tuesday to say Allen had e-mailed him saying he would resign from the board, said Orest Holubec, a spokesman for the governor's office.
Allen's trustee term, which began in 1998, would have expired in 2007.
Activist Nathaniel Livingston Jr., co-chairman of Coalition for a Just Cincinnati, wrote to Taft on Aug. 30, asking the governor to remove Allen as trustee.
"I'm sure you agree that it is improper and inappropriate for a member of the UC Board of Trustees to have a sexual relationship with a UC student," Livingston wrote.
Taft previously said he had that letter, but no decision had yet been made when Cox called Tuesday with the news. The governor cannot remove a trustee without a formal impeachment hearing - but can ask a trustee to resign.
