Luken to Munich for Oktoberfest
The Enquirer
Cincinnati Mayor Charlie Luken departed Tuesday for Oktoberfest in Cincinnati's sister city - but he said the trip won't be all keg-tapping and polkas.
Luken will lead a week-long economic development mission to Munich, Germany, meeting with German businesses and touring successful developments. City development officials and members of the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce will accompany him. Delta Air Lines, Fifth Third Bank, GE Aircraft Engines and the Munich Hofbrauhaus are paying for the mayor's trip.
Home medicine deadline Sept. 30
Low-income seniors who would like to take medications for cancer, multiple sclerosis and other serious illnesses at home instead of at their doctors' office have until Sept. 30 to sign up for a Medicare demonstration project. The Medicare Replacement Drug Demonstration program will enroll up to 50,000 low-income people to pay for several medications that normally are not covered by Medicare unless taken in a doctor's office. Coverage begins October 18 and ends December 31, 2005. A deductible of $85 for this year and $250 for next year would be charged. Out of Bush signs; Kerry has plenty
Ohio Republicans looking for Bush-Cheney yard signs may be out of luck for a while - campaign workers say there's not a sign left anywhere in the state.
"We're basically sold out of yard signs. We had 100,000 coming into the state, and they're flying off the shelves, just like T-shirts and bumper stickers," said campaign spokesman Aaron McLear in Columbus. He did not know when the state would get more.
Campaign officials blamed a glitch in campaign finance laws that made it difficult for the campaign to print the signs until after the Republican National Convention.
Democrats said the Kerry campaign has plenty of signs.
