MU's Hoeppner ponders changes

OXFORD - After watching Miami rush for a total of 70 yards in its last two games against Michigan and Cincinnati while giving up a combined 456, coach Terry Hoeppner said Tuesday that the RedHawks lineup might undergo some changes. That didn't mean fans would see new starters against Ohio at Yager Stadium Saturday.

"I don't name names," Hoeppner said. "I never have, and I never will. Just because they're demoted on Tuesday doesn't mean they can't work their way back into the starting lineup on Saturday, so it could be moot - but they will get a wake-up call."

Hoeppner didn't see anything in tapes from Miami's 45-26 loss to Cincinnati at Nippert Stadium on Saturday that surprised him.

"What we saw is what we got," he said. "We missed tackles, we were tentative on defense and we didn't block well on the offensive line.

"(The players) were very embarrassed after watching the films."

BOUNCED BACK: Of MAC East offensive player of the week Josh Betts, Hoeppner said: "I'm not surprised. He threw for a lot of yards, but what makes that more impressive is he did it without good protection or much of a running game. He only got sacked twice, but he got hit too many times."

Betts was 26-of-43 passing for 416 yards and four touchdowns against UC after a four-interception effort two weeks ago at Michigan. His yardage is the fourth-highest single-game total in MU history.

"I said all along, he's a tough kid," Hoeppner said. LOCKS OF LOVE: Backup running back Adam Ciborowski hadn't had a full-fledged haircut since MU's loss to Iowa in last year's season opener. The senior now has a new look after having 10 1/2 inches of his brown hair cut off by an Oxford stylist.

Ciborowski donated the hair to Locks of Love, which turns hair into wigs for cancer patients.
