A recent traffic stop in Williamstown ended a summer-long holdup spree that stretched from that Northern Kentucky city to Blue Ash.
Police plan to call a news conference Friday to announce the arrest of Marc Acree, 27, who was being held at the Grant County jail Wednesday evening. He is charged with holding up a Florence gas station and is suspected in at least 12 other robberies.
Police say charges are also pending against Sheri L. Greener, 32, of Covington. She is accused of driving the getaway car in the July 20 holdup and is suspected of assisting in the dozen other robberies. It was unclear whether Greener was in custody late Wednesday.
While police on both sides of the Ohio River released few details of the arrest, Blue Ash police said the two were suspected in a robbery there in which a gun was fired.Williamstown police said a break in the case came after Acree was stopped for a traffic violation by Chief Bobby Webb.
Other police departments helping in the investigation of the pair include Cincinnati, Fort Mitchell, Fort Thomas, Covington, Harrison and Delhi Township police and sheriff's departments in Boone and Hamilton counties.
Florence police allege Acree robbed a BP gas station at 7230 Turfway Road on the evening of July 20. The robber pulled a hood over his head and covered his mouth with a bandana, pointed a handgun at the cashier and demanded money, witnesses said.
The cashier emptied money from the cash register into a plastic bag and the robber ran to nearby apartments, where a driver was waiting in a gold Saturn, according to police. Officers think the driver dropped off Acree in the parking lot of Oakwood Apartments and then waited for him to rob the gas station.
