LEBANON - Warren County commissioners today will honor Aaron Koeller of Trenton, who rescued a sheriff's deputy being assaulted by a jail inmate.
Warren County Sheriff Tom Ariss praised Koeller as a hero after he came to the aid of Deputy Sandy Brooks. She was attacked last month by inmate Estell Wayne Buck, who slipped his waist security chain over her neck after a dental appointment and tried to take her gun, police said.
Koeller subdued Buck, who was jailed on a murder charge and now faces charges in the attack on Brooks. Koeller had been at the same Middletown dental office, and officials say he prevented Brooks from suffering serious injuries.
"He was there and saw a problem and became involved. Who knows what would have happened if he hadn't gotten involved?" Ariss said. "He definitely saved Sandy Brooks from more serious injuries. ... How do you thank someone for putting his life on the line for someone he didn't know?"
The ceremony will be held during the commissioners' 5 p.m. meeting at the administration building, 406 Justice Dr.
