Subdivision cleared of lead reopens later

LIBERTY TWP. - Liberty Estates, formerly known as Lexington Manor subdivision, will not reopen this weekend.
Rain has delayed the removal of 23,000 tons of soil containing hazardous amounts of lead, officials said Wednesday.
Ryland Homes now plans to put the two-story homes back on the market at 10 a.m. Sept. 25, said Ria Davidson, a Ryland spokeswoman.
Seminar covers women's health issues
OVER-THE-RHINE - An inaugural "Women's Health & Wellness" program is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillipus Church, 106 E. McMicken St.
Dietitians will talk about nutrition, sensible meals that are easy to prepare, and how to purchase healthy foods on a budget. A fitness expert will introduce moderate exercises that increase cardiovascular health.
The event is sponsored by the Crossroad Health Center and Mercy Franciscan at St. John, a social agency. To register, call 513-381-2247, extension 25.
Replica Vietnam memorial travels here
BLUE ASH - The Wall that Heals, a 250-foot, half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will be on display Sept. 30-Oct. 3.
Organizers are looking for volunteers. They also want family members of soldiers killed in Vietnam to participate in ceremonies.
The replica will be behind the Blue Ash Recreation Center at 4433 Cooper Road. It has an information center and traveling museum.
An opening ceremony is 10 a.m. Sept. 30 and nightly ceremonies will be at 7 p.m., through Oct. 2. A closing ceremony will be 5 p.m. Oct. 3. Call Peggy Behm at 745-8644.
Deerfield OKs money for fire equipment
DEERFIELD TWP. - The fire department is replacing some of its gear.
Township trustees recently approved moving $15,000 that had been designated for landscaping so the department could make the necessary purchases. The township was already planning to spend $15,000 set aside for special projects, but requested the extra money because replacing the gear is a higher priority.
Fairfield Dayz offers entertainment
FAIRFIELD - Blessid Union of Souls will perform a free concert Saturday during Fairfield Dayz at Village Green Park.
The second annual community fair will have food, children's activities and roving entertainers. It opens at 6 p.m. Friday with rockers Red Idle, followed by the Fairfield Footlighters' presentation of It Was A Dark and Stormy Night at 8 p.m.
Festival hours Saturday are 2-10 p.m., with a music lineup of Premium (4:30 p.m.), Langus (5:45 p.m.), Dangerous Jim & the Slims (7 p.m.), and Blessid Union of Souls (8:30 p.m.).
Clermont has slots open on two boards
BATAVIA - Clermont County is accepting applications for openings on the boards of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities and the Planning Commission.
