U.S. Bank plans to relocate three branches it has in Thriftway grocery stores, which are closing, and open two new branches in Southwest Ohio by early next year.
The bank, with 115 branches in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, also plans to begin offering seven-day-a-week banking at some of its traditional brick-and-mortar branches.
The moves, which will include an investment of up to $5 million by U.S. Bank, will allow the region's third-largest bank based on deposits to move branches from Thriftway stores and expand its presence in areas north of Cincinnati. Winn-Dixie is closing its 21 Thriftway stores.
The bank's actions include:
Moving a branch now at the Thriftway in Delhi Township into a bigg's store in that neighborhood by late September.
Replacing a branch at the Thriftway in Northgate with one about two miles south by mid-November.
Merging a branch at the Thriftway in Springdale into an existing branch across from Tri-County Mall by this fall.
Building a branch on Union Centre Boulevard in West Chester, expected to open Oct. 25.
Building a branch in the eastern part of Mason, expected to open by spring.
The branch near Tri-County Mall and the one at Union Centre Boulevard will be the first free-standing branches to offer seven-day-a-week banking locally, said Cathy Myers, head of consumer banking for U.S. Bank in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
Those branches will be open Sundays, noon to 4 p.m.
"We're excited to try this added convenience here, and we hope to get a strong response from our customers," Myers said.
